XPrad: A combined personal and institutional radiology case/teaching file database and presentation software tool.
XPrad is a free software program. The personal portion of the system is a full
functioning standalone desktop database program that runs on your personal
computer. No
web server is required for this portion of the program. The web extension,
XPradWeb, on the other
hand, provides a web interface, allowing publishing of radiology teaching file
on the web easily. The teaching files created and stored in XPrad personal
database can be published by a single click.
XPradWeb is, therefore, a perfect solution for institutions
that need a free institutional radiology teaching file database system.
PERSONAL:: XPrad is a personal database system that is used by individual radiologists to create, edit, store and manage personal teaching files, interesting cases and even research data.
PORTABLE: XPrad is written using the Java programming language and should be platform independent, although the software was only tested on MS Windows. As no installation is required, it even runs on a flash drive, which makes your teaching file database portable.
DATABASE: XPrad contains an embedded relational database. The embedded database alleviates users from the burden of database management, yet enjoying high performance searching capabilities. Built-in human anatomy, disease and radiology modality databases provide a starting point for you to build your own knowledgebase.
SEARCHABLE: XPrad database is indexed to optimize searching. Two built-in search tools are available, a simple keyword based search tool and a advanced search tool that supports structured search.
DATA SOURCE: XPrad accepts multiple sources of images including PowerPoint slides as well as images in BMP, DICOM, GIF, JPEG, PNG and TIFF formats. It provides user-friendly image editing/annotation tools that also supports copy-and-paste of images and text.
IMPORT: XPrad's built-in import tools allow batch importing of pre-existing PowerPoint slides or image files in folders. The PowerPoint import tool parses the slides and extracts the images and text information separately. It even tries to assign text to specific fields such as chief complaint, history, image findings, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, etc.
EXPORT: XPrad allows you to export images in common image formats as listed above. Selected cases or the entire database can also be exported in multiple formats such as PowerPoint slides and XML format which allows sharing of cases among XPrad users as well as importing of cases into institutional databases. With this function, you can have your case conference for any selected cases in PowerPoint format in matter of minutes.
PRESENTATION: XPrad has a built-in presentation tool that allows rapid preparation of PowerPoint-like case conferences, board reviews or other case presentations on-the-fly without using PowerPoint. The presentation tool is configurable which simplifies preparation of a case conference. A customer presentation can be ready in matter of seconds.
EXTENSIBILITY: XPrad is extensible as you can write your own importer/exporter plugin for your specific data source. In addition, arbitrary number of data fields can be assigned to each case. The human anatomy, disease and radiology modality databases are also extensible.
CINE: XPrad does not accept video files as of now. However, individual images of a cine clip can be imported into the database and played in configurable speed. The second version will have support of video files.
SECURITY: Password protection is implemented in XPrad. Unauthorized access can be prevented even though your data may be on a share drive.
